Ajit Kumar Bhattacharjee Memorial Scholarship

The Central Excise & Customs Employees’ Cooperative Credit Society Ltd, established in 1957 by Kolkata's Central Excise and Customs employees, operates under principles of Mutual Aid, Financial Responsibility, and Collective Action. It provides financial assistance to members in need.

Members of the Society are Central Government Employees, and by virtue of their service the wards of the employees are entitled for Educational Grant as per Central Government Rules. But the facilities cease to operate in case of death/demise of the employee.

Despite having many members, a significant number pass away annually due to various causes, including illness, accidents, and work-related hazards.

To support bereaved families, the cooperative has introduced the "Ajit Kumar Bhattacharjee Memorial Scholarship" in honor of the society's founder and first secretary, commemorating India's 75th Independence Anniversary. This scholarship extends aid to the children of deceased members, aiming to alleviate their financial burden.

Objectives

  • To extend the principle of Cooperation in the hour of need by way of welfare to the member.
  • To launch “Ajit Kumar Bhattacharjee Memorial Scholarship” of Rs. 10,000/- per student per year for the dependent wards of deceased members of the Society.
  • To help the family of the deceased member for maintaining education of their wards from Class I to Class XII, for which a fund of Rs. 10,00,000/- available towards welfare fund for operating the scheme initially.
  • Subsequently, additional fund will be allocated as per requirement.

The Scheme

The Scholarship is available to the students studying from Class I to Class XII subject to fulfillment of following conditions

  • Under this scheme, maximum two children of deceased member(s) studying in Class I to Class XII will be entitled. If numbers of wards of deceased member are more than two, first two children only will be eligible.
  • A monthly scholarship of Rs. 500/- totaling to Rs. 6000/- in a year will be given for tuition purpose. For the purpose of admission and purchase of books and stationery etc., an additional amount of Rs. 4000/- will be provided.
  • The amount of scholarship will be disbursed annually after the close of the academic year on production of Progress Report.
  • Application needs to be submitted only once, not every year. Production of Progress report will continue the scholarship for the subsequent year(s).

Spouse of deceased member shall apply for this scholarship on behalf of the student(s). For orphan student(s), his/her guardian shall apply. In other cases the student himself/herself may submit application.

Whenever any family member of the deceased member gets appointment on Compassionate ground, the grant of the stipend will cease from the month of such appointment.

If spouse of deceased member is working in any formations and he/she is drawing any allowances towards children education in any name or form, then his/her wards are not eligible for this stipend.
